Description

Tickpro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor

Active Ingredient: Fluazuron @ 25g/L

Similar Or Comparable To: Acatak Tick Development Inhibitor (Novartis), Wintix Pour-On (Novartis / Ancare), Oztik Pour-On (Jurox),  TikShot / TikBos Pour-On (Landmark), TickStar Pour-On (The Hunter River Company) & Tick Off Pour-On (Apparent)

TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor is a tick development inhibitor for the long-lasting protection of beef cattle against Cattle Tick (Boophilus microplus)

  • TickPro contains the powerful insect growth regulator (IGR), fluazuron 25g/L, which interferes with chitin synthesis of the larval stages of the cattle tick.
  • TickPro controls susceptible strains of cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) & Inhibits tick development within three days.
  • TickPro provides up to 12 weeks protection* from a single treatment (*Boophilus microplus. Protection period may be affected by environmental conditions and livestock factors).  Calves receive adequate protection when suckling on their mothers.
  • TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor is Australian owned and Australian made for Australian conditions
  • TickPro is a ready-to-use pour-on formulation.
  • TickPro is used for the strategic control of the cattle tick, Boophilus microplus (including all known acaricide resistant strains) on beef cattle.
  • TickPro breaks the tick life cycle. When treated with TickPro, immature ticks are unable to molt to the next stage of their life cycle, and no larvae will hatch from eggs laid by treated females.
  • TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor not only provides long-term tick protection for cattle but it may also help lower the tick burden in pasture.

A good tick program is essential for the health, welfare and productivity of cattle.   Many cattle producers in endemic tick areas have a hit and miss approach, treating once or twice when they see ticks and this method has very limited impact.

Fluazuron resistance is increasingly seen in Australia and can be suspected by a shortened protection period.  Fluazuron (ie TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor) use should also be combined into a program that incorporates a mectin (CattlePro Pour-On for Beef & Dairy Cattle) to reduce the development of resistance.  Testing chemical resistance status and seeking advice to design a strategic program is recommended.

Pack Sizes: 5L, 20L & 25L.

TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor is only registered to control Cattle Tick - Boophilus microplus.  We recommend Coopers Exzolt Pour-On, which was recently released. Coopers Exzolt Pour-on for cattle is a next-generation ectoparasiticide that controls cattle ticks for 56 days, bush ticks for 21 days, and buffalo flies for 21 days. It contains fluralaner, a class of chemicals that is new in the Australian cattle parasite market, which delivers breakthrough control against external parasites and will help Australian cattle farmers fight chemical resistance.

TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor (plus all other pour-on's made from Fluazuron) is only registered for use on cattle.   We recommend Bayticol Dip and Spray, Barricade 'S' Dip and Spray for tick control on horses, or Maldison 50 Insecticide.

TickPro Pour-On Tick Development Inhibitor is only registered to control Cattle Tick - Boophilus microplus. If you require both a tick inhibitor and a product to control internal and external parasites, including buffalo fly on cattle, you may want to consider TickPro Duo Pour-On (Fluazuron @15g/L & Ivermectin @ 5g/L).

Fluazuron is partially excreted through the milk in lactating cows.  As a consequence calves sucking milk from treated mother cows get enough fluazuron to be protected against ticks for weeks: they don't need to be treated.   With Fluazuron Tick Inhibitors (ie TickPro) there is no need to treat calves for cattle ticks as long as they suckle treated cows. Calves will receive adequate protection from their mother.  Protection on lactating cows may be 4 to 6 weeks shorter than in non-lactating cows, depending also on milk production. The higher the amount of milk produced, the shorter the protection.  The protection of lactating mother cows is shorter than in non-lactating animals because the administered dose is excreted faster in these cows than in non-lactating cattle.

Tips For Use

Administration:

  • TickPro Pour-On is a tick development inhibitor and kills ticks progressively.  It can take 2 to 3 weeks for cattle to be visibly free of ticks. No additional treatment is necessary during that time, even on heavily infested animals.  The development inhibiting effect of TickPro Pour-On commences within 3 days of treatment.
  • TickPro Pour-On is not suitable for cleaning cattle moving into ‘gazetted’ cattle tick areas.
  • TickPro should be applied strategically, initially at the onset of the tick season, preferably prior to tick activity.
  • Re-treat when ticks are first seen, but not less than 6 weeks from the previous treatment.
  • Maximum number of treatments per year: 3.
  • TickPro is absorbed orally via grooming and through the skin.
  • TickPro should be applied in two 7cm wide bands, either side of the spine from shoulder to tail. This maximises absorption and ensures effective concentrations of TickPro are reached.
  • There is no need to treat suckling calves. Calves will receive adequate protection from their mother.
  • The Pour-On Applicator must be suitable for use with harsh chemicals (Sentroprene Hose, Seals & Washers).  Do not use standard pour-on applicators.
  • Dose individuals according to the heaviest animal in the mob.  Do not under dose.
  • The weight of cattle should be determined by either scales or a weigh-band.
  • A reduced length of protection may occur in cows which are suckling calves.
  • TickPro Pour-On should not be applied to show cattle as a light scurfiness may be visible for some time after treatment.
  • Retreatment interval is 6 weeks from the previous treatment.

Restraint:

  • Do not use on cattle which are producing or may in the future produce milk for human consumption.

Contraindications:

  • This product is contraindicated for use on pregnant cows within 6 weeks of calving to avoid handling stress.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
  • For further information, refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
